MS>My father was a professor for 25+ years.
MS>I just cited his own observations, shared by many of his colleagues,
MS>about "discipline problems" in college teaching...some of
MS>which I saw myself as a student.
MS>Is that "ignorance"?
Our neighbor recently built a shed in his backyard. I talked to him
about it extensively, and also sought the opinions of several other
neighbors who watched the progress of the construction. I stood and
watched as he did some of the work. Do you think I am now prepared to
build my own 4-bedroom home?
The analogy I have drawn is similar to the one you have drawn - that by
merely watching and listening, but never having done any construction,
and my knowledge based on only one level of construction, I am now an
expert on all levels of construction.
I do not know the educational process in the south, and I assume there
are some differences between education in the south and education in the
north, but based on my experiences with the K-12 educational system, I
would venture a guess that you are more ignorant about what goes on in
schools than most people I know. I don't mean to be insulting - I am
probably as ignorant of the legal aspects of collecting debts - but many
of your comments are so out of touch with what goes on in the public
schools here that they are laughable. That is why I seldom respond to
your comments - they usually don't even make sense.
On top of the problem I (and others who have complained as well) have
with your ignorance of the system, the issue is complicated by your
writing style. Whether you intend it or not, you speak with a sense of
superiority that demeans the rest of us. The issue I raised and to
which you responded was, is Matt really as ignorant as he appears, or
does he write as he does on purpose so as to generate conversation,
idiotic though it often is?
I do believe the question is fair, as posed. Please note...I will most
likely end my participation in this conversation here. Discussing most
any issue with you turns out to be an invitation to get thrashed, to get
insulted, or to have to face more ridiculous pronouncements.
