BF>> Here the new is to drive on Methane which is almost exhaust-free and the BF>> Methane comes from a recycling plant. SH> That makes sense but we're unlikely to see such a plant here. What are you doin'g with your waste? We have to sort it in different bags. Red bags for pure garbage and green for food garbage and stuff that can be recycled to Methane. Then we have to sort tin-cans in one container, paper in one, white glas in one and green glas in one and so on. If you don't do this properly you can get a ticket for it. BF>> Do you know that you will save twice as much money on the gasoline when BF>> using a block heater then you pay for electricity for it, even at -5 when BF>> not using it for more than 3 hours? SH> Does "using it" refer to the car or the block heater? My block heater has SH> always been timed. To the block heater. After 3 hours the temp in the engine will not rise anymore and then you will only burn energy without cause. SH> I somehow think that at -5, there is still some viscosity left. Yes there is but that isn't the only reason to have a block heater. When the metal in the cylinders freeze small pores rise and when the even frozen piston with rised pores comes rubbing, all this pores will be cut off, just like if you would use a abrasive cloth. And this is happening to all moveable parts in the engine like ball bearings aso. And this will happend even if there is some oil until the temp in the enging makes the pores go down. But if you use a block heater all this small pores don't rise and the engine will last much longer. If you cold start your engine every morning in wintertime for a couple of years you have worned it out three or four times faster than you would have if you had used a block heater. When I hear someone cold start his engine in the morning and drive off at once I get goose pimples. //Bj”rn ---* Origin: .
