Hi,

First look at Vista Beta 1 seen by me:

- this should be a Pro version - still, I found it is much more like
something in between: Pro  Home

1. 2.4G on a DVD. Few folders. Nice thing to know it is already shipped in
*.wim images (XImage tech) which will Rule!
    200MB setup and 800 install WIM_s.
    - lotta config *.xml_s

2. Setup looks like Alien spaceship.
    - there is no enough system, Custom procedure, overall system/what am I
doinf right now, You choose this over that INF-Ormation.
    - At disk partitioning/formatting there is a little "Merge" button.
Sucess. at merging two partitions in one - hope new diskpart.exe will have
this cappability.
    - setup took like one hour on a Cel. 1.8 with 256MB RAM, 40G disk space.

3. when Vista starts there is stated: "starting LongHorn"
    - auto booted in system, no passw. set for Admin user.
    - auto found almost all of my drivers.
    - were connected directly to the .Net so DHCP; DNS; etc. werk like a
charm.
    - there is no sidebar - pitty.
    - Start Menu is different and acts different.
    - initially, on first boot found that system is taking like 450+MB RAM.
Cleaned some services, now-onBoot = under 200MB in idle.
    - when You start Win. Explorer it eats up 80+MB RAM and about ~70MB VM.
    - icons are big; ran 1024*768;machine is no DX9!
    - there are few nice added futures to command line applications.
    - some of the Very Important cmd line apps. are still broken.
    - cmd.exe looks like same old shit - MSH Should be included (+some other
needs) - still We'll need to wait for EXC 12.
    - Internet Explorer 7 is older then IE7 that I have separratley on test.
    - funny, did not take on OE, *hum* now I'm not sure if it is there or
not ?
    - Event Log looks mighty fine!
    - Root dir tree looks different, there are some other folders included,
etc.
    - there are more then dosen of things changed.
    - found No Narco included.
    - new Synch (devices, folders) look nice, still, could nto get it to
work but think that it might have a future (there is a need for easier
usage and more info on data and progress)
    - everything is filled with new "Star Trek" OnGoing Progress info bars
(thay actually go "Ping" - youll see :)
    - Control panel looks different, I think it is bl00ted, still., some
options are redefined which makes sense but its sure ugly and not functional.
    - Win. Explorer, IE, all of the windows have a "Main URL/Navigation
Bar" - it sucks (!!!) because You cannot move it around and under the
File, Tools bar. Same *navigation* bar Does NOT support executing of the
commands (example: c:\dir /a > something.txt) -- I cannot belive this ?!
    - ZIP folders still do not have "Open With ..." option - I do not
understand this is happening.
    - when take a look at ..\system32\.. You can see dead cats and
everything as found in previous Op Sys. - shame.
    - when installed few applications in ..\Program files\.. found Ill need
to store *.msi packages to program files, ..\windows\installer\.. etc.
    - more then dosen things and important thing are Not changed a bit ==
WTF ?!
    - when copying in Win. Explorer from folder to folder.. now this is more
then funny! :) You get a "ping" green ST bar. Dialog box actually
looks diff. then todays Copy.Bars and have a promisse option Button ==

:))) Still, when You click on it You get another line of "info" text =
bullshit - there is a constant need for addond like: speed, pause, conti,
move leswere, etc. options.
    - help system is SLOW (as well known from WinXP) and has practicaly no
information.
    - Computer Groups gain another one: Installer somehing - comes in handy.
    - in work, it eats more then 320MB, but some things are Fast like Hell!
    - Indexing service and Search are more then palls now I wopuld say,
still there is a need for better I.S. confgiuration.
    - opened Regedit and found that few Key configuration parameters are
unchanged, still, found that few are new and few extended.
    - Also, found that Desktop is run by the explorer.exe, there is no
default separation of taskbar, systray, desktop, Win. Explorer == I cannot
belive they really force this ?!
    - as MS always says that MS is "Interactive" OS I found No
more then one
Desktop option (Virtual Desktops, something like MSVDM (which sucks Big
Time), still imaybe included in kernel or like a separate subsys) == I
CANNOT BELIVE THIS ?!?!?!?!?!??!?!
    - OS is really faster on enumerating network devices and nodes (You can
really see the speed up!)
    - etc.
    - etc.
    - etc.


- this is just a scratch onto surface.
- I am not setisfied for now.

This is BETA (1) so all of this might change. I hope there will be changes.
As i red about Tech. which are to be included in Vista, there are much more
things to see and are to be included - I hardly wait! (!!! It will rock!) I
hope MS will "Outlook"!
