Mulling over George Pope to STEVE ASHER 24 Jan 2005 SA> Whatever happened to the simple & effective practice of rostering SA> teachers for "yard duty" while the children were on recess and SA> lunch breaks? GP> Teachers won't do it! GP> (because school boards won't supply flak vests!) They didn't need flak vests in my day. Teachers were well-armed with the yard-stick & the cane, and occasionally used them on me. :) (A yard-stick was a heavy three foot long ruler, used for ruling lines on the blackboard, and for thumping the occasional backside) Teachers probably don't use chalk & blackboards now.
