Ya. Hopefully that rumor becomes fact when this smog testing stuff comes to
pass.

Purpose is not a problem. The root of the problem is that these connectors
are a straight row series of pins. One of the boards has a run of about 50
of these pins, in line, one long terminal strip if you will. The connector
fits on two ways. And fits on anywhere along that row of pins.
With 6 "connectors" used on that row with various un-used pins along the
way. Some connectors being 4 pin, some 5 pin. A real mix and match
situation.
Its appears to be one of those;
if you have option 1, connector A goes on pins 1-2-3-4-5
connector B goes on pins 10-11-12-13
etc.
if you have option 2, connector A goes on pins 3-4-5-6-7
connector B goes on pins 15-16-17-18
If you have an electronics catalog handy, look up the Panduit MFSS series
header connectors (and mating CE series connectors) thats what these are.
Failing that, look up the AMP MTA Connector systems, just take away the
polarization and friction lock.

Understandable for the Canadian shop since its a private shop, but
completely unacceptable in my opinion on part of OTC. As an electronics
technician, if I had to face this "Sorry we don't sell service literature"
from Sony, JVC, Electrohome etc, I'd have many disgruntled customers, and an
equally, if not moreso, disgruntled Me!
I can understand them not wanting people to copy their equipment, but thats
what patents and copyrights are for. I don't see Sony et all suffering low
volume sales, and they sell schematics and parts 'n peices galore.
Hell, theres even Sam's literature as an independant supplier of schematics
for non-automotive electronic equipment. They can do it, why does the
automotive electronic industry have to be so dang anti independant service?
Just thought of a good analogy for my OTC situation. (Along with deleting
a page of ramblings on the topic) =-)
What if GM/Ford/ChryCo/etc. was to say, "Sorry, but we won't
sell you parts or repair manuals for our cars, You have to come to one of
our authorized GM/Ford/ChryCo/etc dealerships for ALL your repair needs. All
you indpendants stick to repairing lawn mower engines, ours autos are top
secret and we can't give you information on them."
Same Sh*t. Different Pile.
I don't think something like that would wash too well with the independant
industry.
And of course, to keep the analogy completely the same, there are no
independant service manual sources for the above vehicles.

OUCH! Is that for this (name escapes me at the moment) extended driving
style type dyno test?

Short of opening the hood as the tow-truck vultures drive by, how will they
know if you're missing an EGR valve or air pump? What if its one of those
question mark years when some cars had a doohickey and others of the same
model didn't have the doohickey? =)

Them and their payment... (I'll avoid getting started on that topic...)
