BA> Nevertheless, the 'retirement community' would have to do a lot of BA> convincing to get me to accept that minimum care in one actually costs BA> $30,000 or more a year (likewise the idea that the cost of putting BA> someone in a jail cell actually BA> costs that much). Shucks, an ordinary one bedroom apartment - which BA> is what one of those things look like - shouldn't cost more than BA> $12,000/year (outside of the "high rent" areas like CA, anyway). I had to double-take, that I might have posted this in MEMORIES by mistake. Now, that's a retirement plan, live on other peoples taxes, and just get locked up! At dad's first full time job in Calgary, the custodian would go on a seasonal crime spree. When the drive in theatre closed for the Winter, he would steal a bottle of liquor. If he didn't get caught, he would return the next day or two, and try again. Well, one year the judge had enough, and he had three-hots-and-a-cot past the time when he was to report to work in the Spring. When you speak of high rent areas like CA, that could equally apply to Calgary Alberta, or indeed, where Ardith is. One thing I plan to draft into my will, is to get me the hell out of this city if I should need extended care. I'm thinking, "Send me as far East as possible, but miss Toronto at all costs." Hell, if I can survive a road trip, put me in the box of a pickup truck with a jug of water, and a bucket. I'll half the gas. JB> Here I'm regretting paying too much for this, and how I missed bidding JB> on that, I now had to think the night was about to get REALLY JB> expensive. BA> Heh. The summer of 2006 I got carried away at an estate BA> auction. Some good deals, BA> though, a lawn sprayer (that's towed behind a lawn tractor) BA> in mint condition for $65 - BA> they're $250 new. And phonograph records, lots and lots of BA> phonograph records. In fact BA> after I got them all in the car there was just barely enough room for BA> me to squeeze in to BA> drive home (and I didn't get all of them because somebody BA> distracted me for several BA> minutes). Spent something over $300 total as it was. No, I have no idea of what you talk about. I guess it was more than a couple of years ago, I found a tile shop that was clearing out its open stock, and EOL product. At the time, I only had a 3-cylinder Subaru, so back and forth I go. Luckily, the road was smooth, because I was loaded ear high on two of the passenger seats with porcelain. Next auction, I bought a truck, but after that, I was picking up pallets of natural stone, porcelain, and wall tile for $25-35 per. I was still going back and forth, and still glad the road was smooth. Now, I have a 1-ton. BA> Last spring (2007) I picked up a pickup box trailer for BA> $20. Cost me $25 to get the flat BA> tire fixed so I could tow it home. And another $75 or so BA> to get the parts to fix the lights BA> on it. Oh, hell... I'd have had you covered with the lights. BA> Going to one later this afternoon. I purposely do *not* BA> take a truck to them. No, I have no idea of what you talk about. ...
