The Braves traded VICTOR NG to the Pirates for saying:
VN> Randy Johnson... But don't you think that the Montreal Expos is not as
VN> rich as other ball clubs? The Expos can't afford those players. I wish
VN> they could.
Many of those players would have stayed for less than what they were offered
but management never gave them a chance. Look at Minnesota, a team that has
let some of its players go because of salary. They've had more than their
share of players STAY or go to the team for less money because they like
playing in the city or they've heard great things from players on the team.
When the Twins make no effort to sign or re-sign players, they don't get them
but if they make a decent offer to their players, they keep them around more
than you'd expect. Montreal has NO excuse. They have followed the Pittsburgh
Pirate plan which meant that they fought their players at arbitration rather
than with them like the Cleveland Indians did (Of course, the Indians decided
that those hugh profits looked a lot nicer than doing the right thing). They
wouldn't let the players make an offer to them that would have been less than
what they could have gotten on the open market and their free agents have
been allowed to leave without so much as a fight or they're traded a year
before they can become free agents. Quit making or accepting excuses for the
losers in management that have run the Expos. They made their bed and now
they want you to lie in the pus that call the truth.
