There are new services around, much of them, so I just killed few which are
not needed for standalone (I-Do-Nothing - LAN life) setup + mostly new Peer
to Whatever, etc. services.
I'm nost sure, maybe Narco is hidden :)
By default, on Win2K, WinXP *.msi packages of installed applications as
*.mst (*.msp, etc.) Update/Patch (Office, other applic.) files are stored in
C:\%systemroot%\Installer\.. folder. Why ? So You can use Offline (without
source CD/destination) resintallation/Repair/Even Uninstallation of some
packages. On this machine wight now (WinXP) there is about 400MB of
..\Installer\ fodler :)
After install, Vista has about 3GB (If I recall right) - there are Offline
folders (repositories) with various drivers, etc. - not sure if it will be
included in RTM.
Task Manager now has additional options:
- users tab
- executable image path
- command line (command line option passed to image)
-WHAT it lacks is "Window Name" (See tasklist /v option) which is very
handful.
- etc ?!
+ try google >task manager extension - I promise You will setisfied!
(Well ..).
openfiles.exe did not work if I remeber correctly, still, I Hope they will
be enabled by default (AND FASTER and remote control) as it's pain in the
ass to reboot comp. becuase this.
Did not saw Startup "inspector", something like Startup.exe or
silentrunner which I BET I saw in one of the old builds of LH.
Windows installer should have new options (it has logging + it has logging
for uninstal file), still, there should be easy access control like through
gpedit.msc (as there is for Win. Installer, just not all).
- should really install only to one folder thus not polluting
c:\windows, c:\windows\system32\.. as Java, etc. does that by default
(mother Java fuckers) - system should say: Bugger off, and give You an
option to uninstall it in whatever state installation (broken) of package
is (to Push Win. installers back up!!!!!!!!!!!!!), to Always add and remove
option to Add/Remove programs (to no LIE about package installation Size!,
etc., etc., etc., etc., etc.)
Gpedit.msc Has new options, still, there is a lack for some (shoule be
"invented"!).
There will be option for centralies Printer Management == tought I'll come
Old before seeing this in bloody Windows.
Address bar is still bugging me, I cannot belive I cannot move it around,
or maybe I'm stupid afterall.
Disk searching is fast (still, did not test advanced indexing service :()
C:\Documents and settings\ (where new users is not) still exists, BUT!,
there is c:\users\.. (I think that is the name of the folder) in which
there are standard usernames, BUT (again! :) inside structure is changed,
is simple, is looking better, is looking everything better (I hope it will
be!).
I saw that net shell has some new options (I hope that it's show (state,
etc.) commands will really return info and not dump crap).
WMI is boosted again! I BOW to MS becuase of this, makes my everyday
working much easier on a single PC, on 300+PC_S in Domain, on 30+ Servers,
etc. With WMI/ADSI/etc., I SEE everything in every frame in time - Thank
You!
When You press C. + A. + DEL. You got ... I cannot belive when I first saw
that :) I'll let You see that by yourself :)))) I mean, it is so .. that ..
I hope that is for Home ver. of Windows, If aint, I hope there will be some
options to change it :)))
Found that ..\system32\.. is polluted, I hope they will clear it + if some
freak want this Win*up to now crap, add him Legays addon.
There is ..\Logfiles\ folder, still WBem is not using it, Firewall (in this
ver.) is not using it still, etc., etc.
There is no easy GUI access to *Trace* mechanism, there where no in prior
vers. of Win. either. Ok, We should know how to use Registry, so the direct
changes to Registry are not problems! (I love it, I'm not kidding!), still,
THERE SHOULD BE MORE TECHNICAL DATA/HELP/MANUAL/HOW TO_S INCLUDED WITH THE
BLOODY OS!) Shit! Holy Mary of something and somewhere, is that so hard to
understand ?! + Help system should not exceed 5MB RAM, as now it is using
like 25MB of RAM and 30 of VM ?! + there should be fast access from command
prompt (maybe monad will have that option through easy handmade cmdlets).
I found no cmd.exe (command shell) Text Editor, still, found some on the
internet for 170$, WTF ?! (Edit is kind of SLOW when working through
network).
Found small glitches with displaying folders (icons of folders and files)
are not always displayed right or at all, but when You get with Your mose
over 'em they get normal.
This is it for now,
Enjoy All,
P.S. If WDM will live, new Drivers will be much better! Also, red that new
ISR/DPC driver times should not exceed 150microseconds (!), so everything
that goes up to devices and back, etc. should be much faster. For now, I
see normal time about 250microseconds sharp! on lotta drivers. As Windows
relay on quality drivers, think I'll let nothing that is not certified
(verifier.exe) on my comp.
