KALERA ASHLEY was thinking about Re: Ritalin and NIMH and keyed into
cyberspace:
KA>JK> Then: "Restricted diet helps those with food allergies" in spite
KA>JK> of your denial about this factor.
KA>Mark Probert has never denied that restricted diet helps people with
KA>food allergies. He, and other people such as myself, deny that
KA>restricted diet helps people with ADHD.
Let me clarify this in terms Jane may understand. Assume:
I suffer from AAAA. I am also allergic to Jane's messages (I develop
nausea when reading her messages.) We can call her messages a "diet of
drivel" just to keep it in terms she can understand.
To cure the nausea, I go on a restrictive diet and stop reading Jane's
messages.
Since reading Jane's messages did not cause AAAA, it is unaffected.
I hope that clarifies it for Jane.
KA>JK> Also found a statement that ADHD is linked to both the use of
KA>JK> alcohol and o cocaine during pregnancy. As this is usually by
KA>JK> addicts, as a chemical dependency counselor, I object vigorously
KA>JK> to the prescription of any drug f any human by anyone unless
KA>JK> addiction in the immediate family is factored in the history! It
KA>JK> is all too evident to me that this is not being done.
KA>I agree that many doctors are negligent in researching personal and
KA>family background when prescribing medications. However, there have
KA>been no known incidents of addiction resulting from Ritalin use in
KA>the treatment of ADHD.
KA>JK> I also failed to find any mention of school teachers, school
KA>JK> counselors and school administrators among those who were
KA>JK> considered qualified to diagnose ADHD. Those listed were all
KA>JK> medical doctors with specialties.
KA>Yes. This is obvious and Mark and myself have repeated the above
KA>numerous times. YOU were the one who was claiming that teachers and
KA>other school staff could diagnose and treat ADHD. They cannot and
KA>have never been able to do so.
And better not. If they do, they should be reported to the state
licensing authority.
I have offered to do that for those who claim it happened to them. no
one has ever taken me up on that offer. Either totally gutless or lying.
KA>JK> And I found this: "Another debate is whether Ritalin and other
KA>JK> stimulant drugs are prescribed unnecessarily for too many
KA>JK> children.....critics argue that many children who do not have a
KA>JK> true attention disorder are medicated a way to control their
KA>JK> disruptive behaviors."
KA>JK> That is something I have also stated which you object to, yet it
KA>JK> is in the article that you recommended I read.
KA>I suggest that you do, indeed, have a problem with reading
KA>comprehension. The article which you quote above is clearly stating
KA>that the use opf stimulants has critics... which include yourself.
KA>The article is not itself critisizing the use of stimulant
KA>treatment.
KA>The article states that a debate exists... it does not side in the
KA>debate.
It does. It points out that Jane is wrong. But she selectively snipped
it.
KA>JK> I found the information concerning the measured level of glucose
KA>JK> found in t P.E.T. scans. What was not there was any information
KA>JK> about any other conditions in which this is also true.
KA>The article was not about any other conditions. However, if you
KA>believe this to be extremely relevant, you may feel free to research
KA>whether such conditions exist. And perhaps I should remind you that
KA>it is the comprehensive symptomology that makes up a given disorder,
KA>not any one isolated symptom.
KA>JK> How many samples were positive? Since the article mentions the
KA>JK> use of cocai and alcohol by mothers during pregnancy, how many of
KA>JK> the children tested or the adults either were screened for
KA>JK> chemical dependency and how many were also screened for chemical
KA>JK> dependency in their immediate families?
KA>No doubt a subject for a future study.
Done at the time of the study. Alan Zametkin's group screened very
carefully.
KA>Studies, by their nature, are limited in scope.
