   Hey Jim, I heard it a little differently.   The owner of TNR Batteries 
   in Florida, a supplier not only to hobbyists, but to NASA and the USAF,
   sez:
      For SCR and SCRC cells:
      Discharge to .9 volts per cell, and store Ni-Cad batteries in the 
      discharged state.  His advice also jives with Competition Electronics,
      manufacturer of my Turbo 30 battery charger-discharger-cycler-matcher.
      The Turbo 30 always leaves batteries in the discharged condition after
      any cycling or matching operation. 
      After discharging to .9 volt per cell, each cell should be individually
      discharged, using an equalization tray such as the ones by Trinity or
      Cobra.  If the pack is of the stick configuration, the equalization
      step is not possible, but the standard discharge is better than 
ng.
... Anything is possible with imagination and enough duct tape.
