I will take a bird out in those conditions too, provided I know how that
bird will respond to being startled. I have one boy here I thought was
"safe". But first time a balloon popped, he nearly turned inside out,
and bit my neck, trying to hide...

No, it was way too small for that. It was the size of a yellow-collared
macaw, only it had no yellow collar. Maybe it *was* a young YCM...I just
looked in Parrots of the World, and there's no other bird that fits the
description.
