Hi, Bruce;
[Snips]
I'm afraid that your drawing is a bit overcomplex, leading to the
confusing thought that a repeater has TWO receivers and TWO receivers.
IT may have two of each, but only as backups, since only one of each is
used at any time thus:
BL> |
BL> (Xmit) 146.940 -----------> | <------- 146.940 (Xmit)
BL> (Recv) 146.340 146.340 (Recv)
BL> -+-
BL> |
BL> 0 | _____|_______ | O
BL> \|/ | ==x== | \|/
BL> / \ | | / \
BL> You | Repeater | Them
BL> ---------------------------------------------------
BL> =======================================================
BL> || | (audio signal) | ||
BL> || TRANSMITTER |-<----------------| RECEIVER ||
BL> || TUNED TO | |~~~~~~~~~~~~| | TUNED TO ||
BL> || 146.340 Mc |<-| CONTROLLER |<-| 146.940 Mc ||
BL> || | | | | ||
BL> ||_______________| |____________| |________________||
BL> ===================== REPEATER ========================
BL>
BL> The rptr recvs your signal on 146.940 and REtransmits it at the
BL> SAME time on 146.340 (*** 600 KHZ *** offset), then 'them' hears
BL> it with a receive freq of 146.340. When you unkey, 'them' xmits
BL> on 146.940 - the rptr REtransmits it on 146.340 and since you have
BL> YOUR receive set to that freq, you hear their reply.
BL> You BOTH!!! Transmit on 146.940 MHz,
BL> and you BOTH!!! receive on 146.340 MHz...
BL> (just NOT at the same time. Only one
BL> can transmit at a time (semi-duplex))
Also called one-way reversable.
[Remainder snipped]
A repeater may have one antenna, two antennas, (one for receive and one
for transmit), or it can even have several receivers at different
places, all linked to one transmitter.
The controller, which takes a "signal being received" signal from the
receiver then tells the transmitter to go on the air when a signal
is received. It also has other functions, including at least two timers,
the IDer, which identifies the repeater at certain intervals, and may
also include such functions as an autopatch, which allows Hams in their
cars to make telephone calls. There is probably a second receiver,
operating on a different frequency, connected to the controller which
allows the owner to remotely control the repeater as well as other
functions.
