subject: Re: Outlook Max File Size

From: "Antti Kurenniemi"

Outlook prior to the latest 2003 versions had a 2G limit on the pst file,
and I think even Outlook 2000 would allow it to go crash & bang -full.
I've seen it once or twice, and it doesn't really warn about anything, it
just creates a big mess. Sometimes it can be re-opened and cleaned with
very little damage, but at least once I've had to work really hard with
everything I could think of to salvage at least something.

It's a management type of situation, they always keep everything & then
some in their Outlook, which scares the shite out of me. So I've tried to
impose a rule whereever I can: if you can't make a backup copy of the pst
file to a single CD, then it's too large. Impossible to enforce, I know,
but one has to try.

The latest Outlook will allow you to store all your life in that one file,
fill a huge RAID array of disks with it, and then, one night, right after
passing that 7 Terabyte mark, you wake up and realize that this is a new
file format which doesn't really have a long track record, so no-one can
say how well it handles... I'm not going to be an admin that day
