George...
GH> In order for anyone to be french, he/she must have been
GH> born IN FRANCE.
I see the point your making, but what you said is not entirely true. I made
a mistake by saying French and meant to say French-Canadian, I applogize.
But the pepole in Quebec are just as French as the people in France (in my
opinon).
GH> While the Quebecois may speak a patois that resembles French,
GH> it is just a dialect,
GH> as is the variation spoken by the Arcadians (*cajuns*)
GH> of Louisiana...so much
GH> for YOUR research....
First of all it is Acadians, the French in France, Belgium, Canada, it
doesn't matter it all dialect, there is no proper French. It is like saying
the English in England speak the PROPER English, which is not true, it's all
a bunch of dialects, so much for YOUR research!!!
GH> The fact that the people will come out to see a native-
GH> born Canadian player,
GH> when they will not flock to the gates to see a highly-
GH> seeded team shows only
GH> that nationalism/patriotism is alive and well in
GH> Montreal or Toronto.
This is not true in Montreal, there have been many Canadian players play for
the Expos' (including the great Larry Walker) and they didn't get great
crowds while when someone with a French-Canadian name like Denis Boucher
(when he started for the first time they sold out on a weekday) boost crowds.
It is not Canadian they come to see, it French-Canadians.
