Hi, Brendan;

Actually, there are technical reasons. At 144-148 MHz, it is fairly easy
to build tuned circuits which will prevent the transmitter's signal from
getting into the receiver and causing it to lose sensitivity. This is
called "Desensing." These tuned circuits are called "Cavities." They
are not coil-and-capacitor tuned circuits, they are hollow cylanders,
usually silver plated on the inside so that they have a minimum loss.
They allow the system to use two antennas very close together, or even
use the same antenna for transmitting and receiving at the same time
without interaction between the transmitter and receiver..

He may not understand TX and RX. (For his benifit): TX is the
abreviation for Transmit(ter), and RX is the abreviation for receive(er).

[Remainder snipped]

I have no comments about the remainder of what you said. It is all
correct. I posted a message to him today which explains the same thing
in much greater detail. The biggest difference is that I used a
different repeater pair.
