JH> MM>True, but indications have been given. Federation membership
JH> is well
JH> MM>over 100 worlds now. Within the space explored by the
JH> Federation, there
JH> MM>are certainly hundreds and more likely thousands of sentient
JH> species.
JH> MM>That space is a relatively small part of the galaxy.
JH> I've heard various estimates. Some as high as five hundred worlds,
JH> others set that number at about 150, chosen because it relects the
JH> current number of memeber nations in the UN.
JH> In my RPG scenarios, the Federation is smaller because I stick to the
JH> 1 or 3 light years per day speed of the starships. That means a
JH> useful distance at about 100 lightyears and a potential globe about
JH> 600 light years across.
JH> That can easily encompass 150+ g type yellow stars. If you count
JH> every possible planet, asteroid mining colony and Regula type small
JH> space station you might get as high a 500...
JH> MM>As to speed, we know that some Starfleet people assimilated
JH> in the
JH> MM>Battle of Wolf 359 have been in the Delta Quadrant for some
JH> time now.
JH> MM>That means speeds far in excess of what Starfleet can
JH> manage.
JH> AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH. Sometimes I hate what Voyager does to the
JH> continuity.
