-> BUT, these days alcohol has really made a resurgance on college
-> campuses and it has certainly been termed a MAJOR problem. More kids
-> are becoming alcoholics, and disciplinary/criminal problems that are
-> alcohol-related have increased.
I am aware of this. Yes, it is a big problem at our high school, as
well.
-> I don't think it would be too far-fetched to surmise that this
-> problem would extend into the classroom. I can't say for sure, but
-> such a conclusion is plausable. It would be nice to get some input
-> from people currently teaching college.
I never said otherwise. Certainly it is plausible.
I did teach a summer course two summers back at Cal Poly Pomona. College
Algebra. The lowest math class you can actually get credit for. While I
had some students that were problems, I can't say as I noticed any
alchol/drug related problems. Not saying there weren't any. I didn't
look for them.
I think that what started people disagreeing with Matt, is that he made
it sound like there are routinely a significant number of students
attending classes while openly drunk, disorderly, and disruptive. This
does not coincide with my experience. Whatever.
-> I only give you this information because I want to point out that
-> drugs and alcohol are a BIG problem at our school. I am in
-> administration and I am privy to some of the information in this
-> area.
-> Alcohol is making a big comeback here. We are very concerned about
-> inhalent use, too. So far, that has not been a big problem, but the
-> kids involved are suffering devastating consequences.
Like I say, we have the same problems at our school, as well.
