Mulling over George Pope to STEVE ASHER 26 Jan 2005 Hi George... SA> They didn't need flak vests in my day. Teachers were well-armed with SA> the yard-stick & the cane, and occasionally used them on me. :) SA> (A yard-stick was a heavy three foot long ruler, used for ruling lines SA> on the blackboard, and for thumping the occasional backside) GP> Of course I know what a yardstick is! How old(young) do you think GP> I am, anyway? I wasn't sure if it was a term used in North America or not, but obviously it is :) SA> Teachers probably don't use chalk & blackboards now. GP> The big thing last I heard, is whiteboard and eraseable markers! I'm sure the children learn that they can cause havoc by switching the whiteboard marker for a permanent one ... we used to put chalk in the dusters, among other things. GP> I'd prefer a PC terminal on every desk, on a LAN where I can GP> control all and/or individually, if I were teaching in a classroom GP> (currently I'm just doing one-on-one computer training) The PC terminal on every desk will be all well & good, & handy for many things, but for some things a book, pen and paper are fine. I never had a blue screen of death pop up while I was reading "Dick and Dora"!
