Usually antivirus software gets between the mail server and outlook. What
you are describing sounds like norton to me. Are you using Norton?
I've used Outlook forever and never had it lose an email. I agree about
some of it's non-rfc stuff but that usually results in it accepting more
than it should and duplicating messages instead of losing them.
