I can see where the AV software would insert itself between Outlook and the
server, but the problem is the disappearance of the message within Outlook.
We use Norton AV, and I've watched it as it sends large attachments. The
message stays in the Outbox until the message is fully sent to the NAV
proxy. Then Outlook moves the message to the Sent Items box.
However, one of the things we did was turn off outbound SMTP NAV scans, so
NAV is out of the picture. (While NAV wasn't on my suspect list, it was a
target of my "simplify the problem" procedure.). What we are
seeing is that Outlook never moves the message to Sent Items, and it is
gone from the Outbox.
