Noticably? If so, go back to the old version. ;-)
The reason for this is probably because it isn't using Gerard van Essen's
version of Scott Dudley's MSGAPI, but rather XMSGAPI. XMSGAPI is currently
better for portability than speed; future versions may be better optimised.

On my machine it took less than a second to scan ~350 echos, so I removed that code.
