I have done a little research on class mobility in the
US. If you care to do the same you will find out that
one of the fastest growing classes is the black middle
class. So you have the poor blacks moving out of
'poorness' and into the American dream.
If you check farther you will also find that they are
also moving out of the intercity, and in a lot of cases
the city entirely, just as fast as they are moving up
in social class.
Yes, to reach that level of wealth is a statistical
anomaly. But if you look at large groups of people you
will see that they have worked themselves out of
poverty. The two that pop into mine are the Vietnamese
and Koreans. Most of them arrived with little more
than the clothes on their backs and now are business
owners. The Cubans could also be included I guess,
although some of the earlier arrivers did bring money
with them.
The difference between these groups and others is the
fact that they support each other rather than victimize
each other.
