Hi Pat;
XON and XOFF are not commands sent to/from modems, but from software
to software. Specifically, they are ASCII codes sent through the
modems from the receiving comm program to the sending comm program.
The codes tell the sending program to start and stop sending data.
XON and XOFF regulate the data stream so that data will not overfill
the sofware buffer while the receiving system has to take time out.
To that extent they are commands, but not origionally intended
for modems. They are usually oblivious to it.
BTW, XON and XOFF are obsolete. They are only useful for 'text'
transfers, not compressed or binary files.
