Oh, they've heard of them.   Remember, the best brains from VMS and Berkeley
were hired by MS in NT's heyday.

But semaphores seem to have been deprecated out of existence at Microsoft -
they have better.  Spinlocks I know nothing about.

If you're interested, there have been several videos on Channel9 and MSDN
TV lately by members of the kernel team.  I think I even mentioned one last
month.  Bright folks.
