Hello Ward,
HD>> Not only space, but als transportation costs and time.
HD>> OffLine compression (ZIP) is always mucht better than online, i.e.
HD>> NMP/V42.
WD> Transportation cost and time have become irrelevant.
For you may be, but not for me.
HD>> Many are using old HD's.
WD> So did I until they started producing too many errors.
Now I have one 13 yo 80 GB EIDE drive that is making much periodic noise
when room temp is below 21 oC. That machine is the Acorn RiscPC from 1994.
So I first have to raise temp before starting that dayly used machine.
But I also have six spare drives of the same capacity, make and type.
WD> Just this week I bought a WD 1TB drive for 50Euro to help someone disc
WD> whose was showing problems ... 1TB for 50 Euro? Who still wants the old
WD> crap.
New crap is not allways better than old crap.
By other friends I have seen so many WD drives dying in a much shorter time
than other makes, so I never want a WD drive.
10 years ago I warned my sisters husband before buying one,
and that drive died within 3 years ;-(.
HD> but since the second run of the 3 letter 3 figure car plates,
HD> I lost the order, i.e. which combination is which year.
HD> After more runs of 3L, 3F combinations, we got 1F, 3L, 2F,
HD> or 2F, 3L, 1F, etc. Once I saw the nice one: 1-TZT-99.
HD> Wich six characters you can keep it compact, in stead of Belgian cars
HD> from many start wich 1 and some king got all the fines ;-).
WD> The composition of license plates for cars is now settled on a European
WD> wide basis ...
I have not heard of changing the car plate configurations to a new standard.
You have a source for that?
Please proof it.
Henri.
