Yes, but most everyone I know - and I moderate one of the biggest digital
camera forums on Yahoo and participate in several others - uses a card
reader and the computer system's own file utility. In the case of WIntels,
it is Windows Explorer.
Card readers are cheap, fast and easy to use, and don't put any strain on
the camera's USB connectors. The only time I have ever hooked the camera
directly to the computer for offloading was when I was on location on the
desert shoot and offloading onto a laptop.
Of course, some cameras do come with very useful applications as well. Mine
came with a full, able-to-be-registered Adobe Photoshop Elements - a superb
program.
