subject: 49Mhz to 6m...

29 Mar 98 05:28, Paul Williams said this about 49Mhz to 6m... to Jeff
Edmonson.
PW>>> I'll give you another source for 49Mhz fun. How about
PW>>> the older 49Mhz cordless phones? Re-rock one for 6M and then
PW>>> connect the speaker and mic lines together for a low power
 PW>>> repeater.
JE>> How old are we talking, Paul?
 PW>
PW> Mmmm... Probably anything before '89 - '90. Give or take a few.
PW> I'd see them at yard sales, fleas, and thrift places. 'Bout the
PW> biggest reason they'd get rid of them is the batteries were toast
PW> and they didn't know it or want to mess with them.
You've generated some interest here. I've just replaced the battery in my
Cobra 2-line portable phone and I'm charging up the batteries now. I've
noticed that when the base isn't connected to a land line, there's no squelch
action. Waddya propose to do for a squelch? One other problem, most
portables have a digital tone encoder/decoder. Maybe not a problem for the
original base/portable, but may be one for the added or buddies portable when
you get to repeater operaton.
... Quick, call a Witch Doctor. My witch is sick!
