Having confronted Dr. Zorch, Owen E. Oulton, International Man Of Mystery, 
exclaimed:

 OEO> his personal effects, a coin with a loon on its front (obviously he's
 OEO> no numismatist, or he'd know that the loon is on the reverse, not the
 OEO> obverse) - a Canadian "Loonie" (one dollar coin) which had been in his
 OEO> family for hundreds of years. 
 OEO> I gotta wonder what that was all about.  It had no real bearing on the
 OEO> episode at all and was never mentioned again...  Bizarre, yes? 
      It was mentioned briefly later on towards the climax of the 
episode when Eddington says something to the effect of "I wish I had my 
Lucky Loonie right now."
      I think mainly the reference was put in there by the Canadian 
staffers on the show, much like on other shows like The Simpsons and King 
Of The Hill ("Manitobas, the official cigarette of the Royal Canadian 
Mounted Police").
      I'm sure you've seen the recent article in your local paper about 
the Royal Canadian Mint introducing a commemorative coin honouring the 
Loonie.  Someone there referred to the DSN reference as justification for 
doing it...
