PL> Enterprise, (pick a letter) was named after the carrier.
PL> Remember, the Shuttle program did not start until the 70's
PA>and Trek
PL> began in 66.
PA> 1960s: Star Trek. After several other suggestions are
PA>rejected, the starship is named "Enterprise".
PA> 1970s: NASA goes looking for a name for its space shuttle, and
PA>is flooded with letters suggesting that it be named "Enterprise"
PA>in honour of the starship.
PA> 1980s: Star Trek TNG. In one of the rooms on the Enterprise-D,
PA>there is a display showing models of the past Enterprises. As
PA>well as the E-C, E-B, E-A, and E-original starships, there is a
PA>model of the space shuttle Enterprise,
PA>implying that in the Star Trek universe the starship was named in
PA>honour of the space shuttle.

PA>... History does repeat itself. But not as often as TV repeats
PA>old movies.
I beg to differ, The Observation Lounge on the E-D didn't have a model of the
Space Shuttle on the "Enterprise Evolution Wall". I believe what you are
talking about it the Recreation Room on "STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE" where
Decker is showing the altered "Ilea" around. There are photographs of
previous "Enterprises" including the "The Sloop, The Aircraft Carrier, The
Orbital Space Shuttle, A Freighter and finally The Starship".
