ZF> ooooo! The "C" word! There are those who would declare you a
ZF> 'canonhead' for defying the "One True Trek"...
I'm sure the Bishops and Cardinals are declaring me a
Trek heretic as we speak. :-) The "Bird" has spoken!
ZF> Another compromise that was reached was a slightly different
ZF> approach...
ZF> The Constitution Class is the 'basic' model of that style of starship.
ZF> The so-called "Enterprise Class" is not an actual class, but a
ZF> _mission-specific_ designation.
ZF> Other ships of the line may have similar 'E platforms' or other names
ZF> as each ship distinguished itself. The USS Intrepid may have been more
ZF> science-oriented (given the Vulcan crew), and so any Constitution
ZF> Class spaceframe with a heavier orientation of science/research
ZF> equipment may be an "Intrepid platform".
ZF> So.....the NCC-1701-A was a Constitution Class ship with an
ZF> "Enterprise" mission platform.
That would work also, without terribly stretching any bounds
of reasonableness. Though I can't draw any comparison to today's
Navy off the top of my head, It would explain why some of the other
Constitution Class ships seemed to get their butts kicked so badly
sometimes.
ZF> If you ever get the chance to see James Doohan lecture somewhere, be
ZF> sure to ask him about "Scotty as a lad".
ZF> He has created the most marvelous history for Scotty that fits right
ZF> in here.
I'll bet he has! :-) You know that man is a veritible cast of
thousands.
ZF> Sure, he would have. Then Fleet would have taken the crew aside and
ZF> debriefed them again.
I wish I could have sat in on that one..."And now Starfleet Films
presents....Safe Sex on Vulcan! With your host Gilbert Gottfried!" Nope!
Not in a million years...
ZF> After all, you've got a captain whose had his brain swapped with a
ZF> psychopath, and a First Officer who literally lost his mind...a Chief
ZF> Medical Officer who not only had a "bad trip" on a heavy psychotropic
ZF> drug, but ended up 250 years in the past as a result, plus a Chief
ZF> Engineer who is an alcoholic!
ZF> If you look at it from _that_ perspective, it's a bleeding miracle
ZF> Kirk didn't order them into the Sun at Warp 14!
OUCHOUCHOUCHOUCHOUCHOUCHOUCHOUCHOUCHOUCHouchouch!! That smarts!
Could be worse. Jack Lord could've gotten the lead instead Bill
Shatner. Can you see the dialogue then? "Book'em Spock, Murder one!"
