The road skirts the southern edge of the region. The truly dramatic
scenery can only be seen by hikers, canoeists and the rich who charter
helicopter flights. And as a world heritage site, admittance is severely
restricted.

I had the opportunity once to canoe the entire river with a National
Film Board crew but turned it down for lack of funds. (I had just
graduated from college and my employer wouldn't give me a 6 week unpaid
leave of absence - we were building a pipeline, were short staffed and
behind schedule.) I've always regretted not doing it though.
