I've got a cordless phone here, that's 10 channels...  also in the 49MHz 
range...

Very true.
Do you have any that you've picked up?  A little modification, and voila, 
you're on 6m!
Makes me -real- interested about my 10 channell thing - I'm sure it's not got 
10 crystals in it...  probably some pll...
Hmmm - a 6m repeater for converted cordless phones?
Take the base and connect an outside, hi-gain antenna on it, and suddenly 
you've got an instant neighborhood repeater, with several low-powered 
handhelds and, it'll be full duplex!
