Since Guy Putnam yelled this at Steve Henderson, I hollered this in response:
SH> The TOW is line-of-sight only.

 GP> Maybe so, but it will deliver some shrapnel down-range . . . . .

SH> No, it won't. It delivers an -anti-armor- explosive shaped charge
 SH> with extremely high accuracy.
GP> Sounds like an excellent solution to a MG nest or bunker . . . .
That isn't the same thing as an anti-personnel charge, now is it?
SH> At NO time has the TOW ever been used as an anti-personnel weapon.
 GP>
GP> That's a pretty big statement, unless you were present at all TOW
GP> firings, or had access to the reports on each. What if someone used it
GP> as an anti- personnel weapon & was later killed so nobody knew about
 GP> it?
Why in the hell would someone fire a $5000-plus missile in an attempt to
take out a few troops? The TOW is used from a standing overwatch position
against enemy -armor-. YOUR armor batallion is assigned the task of
engaging enemy armor with the TOW standing guard on the flanks. The
accompanying friendly troops are there to take out the enemy personnel.
I -know- the manner and method of deploying the TOW. It is -useless- as an
anti-personnel weapon.
... Oxymoron: Mismatch.
