TWO STELLAR OPPOSITES

The little constellation Corona Borealis, currently lower left of bright
Arcturus in the evening sky, holds two variable stars that behave in
opposite ways. Read about R and T Coronae Borealis, then check on them
this evening with binoculars:

CERES AT OPPOSITION

The first-discovered asteroid, 1 Ceres, is at opposition this week in
Libra. It's visible with binoculars at 7th magnitude; use the finder chart
in the May SKY & TELESCOPE, page 56.

Jupiter and Saturn are up in the evening. The waxing crescent Moon shines
in the west at dusk. Comet Tempel 1 is in evening view with telescopes at
about 10th magnitude. Dim Uranus passes 1.1 degrees from Mars on the
