Hi, Bob;

BL> The "defective" motherboard arrived yesterday and I mailed you a
BL> refund check this morning. But this evening I tested the board,
BL> and found that the speed-setting jumpers were incorrect. J6-J7-J8
BL> were set for a clock speed of 50 MHz, but the CPU is a 486DX2/66
BL> (clock speed 33 MHz, with an internal doubler to 66 MHz).

First I tried it W/ the CPU that was in it, then I tried it with the
486DX/100 that came out of my old motherboard, and neither one worked.
I must have forgotten to change the jumper back. My fault for that.
but the fact is that that board did not work in my machine with either
CPU.

BL> With these jumpers set for 50 MHz, the BIOS displayed the message
BL> "CPU speed 100 MHz, but the booting process ended there.

I couldn't even get that! No beeps, not even a flash of light on the
screen! (And yes, the speaker was correctly connected and all the
cards were properly seated). I dunno.

 BL> These
BL> jumper settings and clock speeds are clearly marked on the board,
BL> as are most other settings. Once I located the problem and reset
BL> J6-J7-J8 to a 33 MHz clock speed, the board booted normally and
 BL> perfectly.

BL> I tested this board before shipment, and it was pulled from a
BL> working system where it had been operating flawlessly for several
 BL> years.  How the jumpers J6-J7-J8 got changed is anybody's guess;
BL> it certainly didn't happen here.

(Explained above)

BL> It's conceivable that you had other problems. I used a single
BL> 72-pin SIMM in socket U17. You may have used four 30-pin SIMMs
BL> in sockets U8 thru U11, in which case jumper JP5 *might* have
BL> needed to be changed. (I can't test this theory because I have
 BL> no 30-pin SIMMs.)

Nope. 1- 8MB, 72-pin SIMM.

BL> It's also conceivable that one of the board mounts in your case
BL> was contacting a trace on the PC board, shorting out the whole
BL> works. I tested the board on the bench, not mounted in a case.

That is possible. My case, (a mid-tower), is a bit oddball as far as

BL> Anyway, I'm sorry you had the problem, but the board goes back
 BL> up for sale:

I'm sure that the next person will be happy with it. I apologize for
the inconvience.

Catch you later... Be well.
   Ivy
