re - what would sick people do without on-line meetings? - I don't
know. I'm disabled and getting to meetings is nigh unto impossible of
late and it's nice to have this forum to turn to when I need it. It's
one of the things I'm thankful for this year. My husband is home and
had a heart attack some two months ago. He is not doing well. He
needs me at home, so even during times I normally could get to a
meeting, I'm not getting to one.
.
Thank God also for the AA Grapevine, as my sponsor bought me a gift
subscription to it.
.
I had a friend who died clean and sober from AIDS got from when he was
active. He died almost five years sober and for the last year and a
half or two he couldn't get to any meetings at all. He didn't DO
on-line stuff. He was a real pain in the butt sometimes, but he DID
die clean and sober - a power of example to me in many ways.
.
I think that being disabled and unable to get to meetings has forced me
to turn more and more to "A Power greater than myself, whom I choose
to call GOD (or whatever)". I certainly know my current situation
keeps driving me back to a spiritual source - it's either that or go
mad or drink and/or drug OR JUST GO INSANE. The latter being the most
likely occurence in my case. (And I KNOW I am a pain in the butt
myself these days. I might be nicer if I went back to booze or drugs.
And I have to use whatever tools I can to remind myself why I can not
return to active CHemical Dependency - as they call it nowadays.
.
I've been there, done that, still there and still, by that amazing
grace (amazing to ME), sober. So if I can help, please drop me a
message if you'd like. I've had a lot of surgery and am familiar with
pain and discomfort. Take it from me, I don't suffer well - not at
all. (My husband would be nodding if he could read this - he's seen me
post-op too many times) It's not easy, but it can be done. It's not
easy by a long shot - but it's better than the alternatives.
.
And I hope you GET WELL SOON!
