Common sense. If you're looking at the flight of the ball from the side,
your perception is going to be skewed. If you're to the right of the flight
of the ball, it's going to make all pitches look farther to your left than
they actually are. (That means more INSIDE for lefties, not more outside.)
Hold something in your hand, representing the ball, and place it a few inches
directly above something respresenting the plate. Look at them straight on.
Now move your head slightly to the right. Note that the object you're
holding no longer looks like it's directly above the object representing the
plate. It suddenly appears to be to the left of the object representing the
plate.
Mind you, I'm not suggesting the left-centerfield camera's position and
distance skews your perception as much as my experiment, but it definitely
DOES skew your perception of the ball and the plate. How much we don't know.

So you believe the right call is to call a strike well off the plate, even
though the rules state otherwise?

It's a judgement call whether or not a ball passes through the strike zone as
defined by the rule book. It's NOT a judgement call WHERE the strike zone
is, as suggested by Gregg when he stated, "My strike zone as been the same
for 20 years," the operative word being "my." It's not HIS strike zone to
define.

I never blamed Gregg for even losing that game, let alone the series. What I
blamed him for was taking that one game out of the players' hands, and
reinventing the strike zone to suit himself.

The Braves didn't get Grissom for nothing; they traded for him.

Good for you. I like true fans.
