RW> I try not to. I do machine heads for the guy across the
RW> parking lot. Mainly because we trade labor...I machine his
RW> stuff and he takes care of my cars...That way, I don't get
RW> greasy.
 You are an evil person.
RW> I've got a 400 Pontiac block with a 455 crank in it.
 KEWL !!!
RW> Although, I had a real automotive machine shop do the work.
RW> To my specs. The crank has the main journals turned down to
RW> fit the 400 block. Had to weld up and turn the thrust main
RW> to fit the 400, which isn't as wide as the 455. Had the
RW> crank re-heat treated, ground and polished. Had the block
RW> decked after I measured it for deck height and found it way
RW> off. It's now got .020 deck height on all 8 pistons. It's
RW> waiting for the day I get time to finish putting it
RW> together. Needs everything besides crank, rods and pistons.
If you ever want to get rid of it let me know. I have a great set of heads.
The kid I am building the 455 for would love to spend his money on something
else to make him faster.
RW> I could do the machine work, but I'd farm out the welding.
All I need is a friend with a welder (have one of those) and a friend with a
band saw. (lacking that one)
RW> Sold my TIG welder a few months ago, with the intention of
RW> buying a MIG, but decided to forego that. Can't weld worth
RW> a damn anyway.
Hehehehhe I hear ya. I can put two pieces of metal together. It is
permamant. It is not pretty.
