If cold is the problem, this may help: I NEVER turn my radios off unless
there is a thunderstorm in the area, or if I am working on them.  True,
this increases the electric bill a bit, however it also minimizes
thermally-caused frequency drift.  It also prolongs the life of all
solid-state devices by minimizing physical stress caused by heating and
cooling cycles, which cause expansion and contraction.  (I do the same
thing with my two computers.)
