JH>i recently bought a usr Sporster 28.8 PCMCIA card - i was told by both
JH>the retailernd usr that it was ug to 33.6 - now they have both changed
JH>there mind. I still got a good price, but am still not certain if it is
JH>UG since both have changed there stories about 3 times each. In addition
JH>to this when I do the ATi3,4,7 commands it says USR Courier - I know

Hello Jim,
I too have a Sportster PC Card Modem which is a pure 28.8 only.
The command ati7 indicates a supervisor date of 10/10/95 and rev
number 6.1 the DSP rev is 11.3 The clock freq is 20.16 Mhz
The commands ati4, 5, and 6 all indicate the modem to be a Sportster
28800
The ati3 command reports: Sportster PCMCIA v.34 28800/FAX V6.1.
To the best of my knowledge USR has not published any statement on
their Internet site that this modem can be upgraded.
My PC Card connects to most sites at 28.8 and there is an occasional
connect at 26.4. My download cps are between 300 to 500 less than a
V.Everything 33.6 which has been flashed to 56k.
My USR V.Everything connects at the same speeds unless I am lucky and
connect to a host 56k digital. As I said the download cps run about
300 to 500 higher with this modem.
When I look at that tiny PC Card modem I am amazed that it even works.
