Hi Allan,
AQ> AC> I don't think I'll ever get there, but I wouldn't be disappointed. I
AQ> AC> am a writer and would dearly love to write a story about the
AQ> AC> Aborigines (sp) I have always been fascinated with them and their
AQ>yes I think that your mind would be open enough to enjoy it for what it
AQ>is, rather than it being a poor imitation or whatever of back home.
AQ>These days people go from one 5 star hotel in one country, to another,
AQ>meet the same type of people, and you wonder why they come all the way
AQ>across the pacific.
I always like to take the back roads, I'm one that likes to see the old
way, not the tourist traps.
AQ>It saddens me that we have too many "ugly" Australians travelling
AQ>the world, but so do other countries. I wonder how some can find their
AQ>way to the outhouse in their yard, let alone get out of their country
AQ>!
We have a lot of "ugly" Americans too. And it's funny, but they are the
ones that have the money and time to travel. I think, some of that is
that they know they won't be back so they don't care what they do.
AQ>One of the complaints we get about our country side is that it is so
AQ>"boring". I feel sorry for people like that (not for nationalistic
AQ>reasons), but their eyes are so obviously not receptive, and they don't
AQ>know it! The countryside is so interesting if one keeps one's eyes and
AQ>mind open. My ex and I drove from Sydney to Darwin (2600miles), and I
AQ>found it fascinating the way the country changed over every little hill.
They miss so much that it is a real shame. I know what you are talking
about. I have been with people like that and when you point out
somethings to them, they enjoy it but they would have never saw it on
their own.
AQ>Your library may be able to get you some copies of the Australian
AQ>Geography magazine (a bit like the National Geographic style), so that
AQ>you can find out a little more about Australia.
I was a Marine Corps Brat, so I have lived a lot of places in the
states. Do you have a preference? What areas would you like to know
about? Looking forward to talking with you more. Have a great day today
and a better one tomorrow.
