Like just about all other wrestlers of his generation, he was a mat wrestler. There were very few "high flyer" techniques back then, except for drop kicks and the ocassional knee drop from the second or top rope. If I recall correctly, he had a few finishing moves, both for pinning and for submission. He sold. Back in those days, faces sold a lot, and then came back from the brink of defeat to win their matches--even when wrestling jobbers. It wasn't as blatant as Hogan "Hulking up," but that was the general story line. As for promos, keep in mind that it was the early days of television (and much of his career was before television), so there really weren't any promos as we understand them today. Usually it was in an interview format. Heck, during the 1950s, the only interviews were during the intermission. And when I first started watching (about 1953-55), they interviewed the fans (especially those from out of town), not the wrestlers. -- Never play strip tarot. --- Internet Rex 2.29* Origin: The gateway at Swills (1:229/3000.1) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 229/3000 123/500 106/2000 633/267 |
