Sounds like a general cleaning of the tube sockets, and the pins, themselves 
is in order.
For the tube bases, probably a small wire brush would do the job, nicely.
for the sockets, a 'rough' (non-absorbant) pipe cleaner would do the trick, 
since the pin sockets open all the way through.

Diodes are nothing more than one-way wires.  Either they work, or they don't. 
 They seem to be working fine, if the reciever is working a bit - I'd leave 
that part alone and concentrate on cleaning the thing up, and replacing the 
caps.
With most all components back at their original values, the powersupply 
should perk right up, as well.
