Greetings Rob!
The problem is the connection between the deck and the games, as I am sure
someone has told you by now. The edge connector on the game cartridges can be
cleaned with any good connector cleaner, but the socket inside that receives
the
game is a different story. Sometimes just cleaning the game several times
after
insertion will help clean socket inside the deck. There are also cleaners
hat
can be bought at stores like Toys 'R Us that have rough surfaces and will
clean
the deck.
But there is one other option, the socket in the deck can be replaced for
$5-10.
I can't find the address readily for a company that sells them, but I got the
address from the ELECTRONICS echo and I'm sure someone in the TECH or
R_DEBUG
echos would have it.
I mentioned a connector cleaner earlier instead of Isopropyl Alcohol because
have had games that seem to "oxidize" (for lack of a better word) faster
fter
using the alcohol rather than a good contact cleaner. Perhaps it was just a
quark or two, but I seem to have better luck with a quality cleaner.
But, even alcohol and a q-tip or two will remove lots of tarnish (hey, maybe
better word?) from the edge of the game cartridge, you won't believe how
ch.
Now for the on-topic comment: Fixing the unit should allow you to get a
ittle
more out of the unit than if you sold it in non-working order....
