Marilyn, I thought I'd update you on my tomatoes and peas!
MB> Oh oh! better hurry! You want those tomatoes ready to put in the
MB> ground by the first of next month! Some of my tomatoes are
MB> sprouting, just planted them a few days ago!
I had a nice bunch of seedlings going in the dining room window, but then
they started dying and I couldn't figure out why until hubby saw that the
15lb cat thought the seed box was a good place to lay down and look out the
window! I guess I'll go buy some starter packs now...
MB> MM> I figure if it gets hot too early, we'll have pods, if it stays cool
MB> MM> long enough, we'll have peas, and if gets warm way too early, at
least
MB> MM> we'll have pretty flowers.
MB>
MB> Sounds like you have it pretty well covered! I guess it's
MB> turning cool again, so they should be happy for a while.
They started flowering last week and yesterday I found 3 pods growing! Yea!
One pod is ready to pick, but I can't cook much with just one pod. It's
time to start watching them daily now though to make sure I don't miss the
pod stage and end up with just peas.
So far the gopher turtle just watches me water the peas - as far as I can
tell he hasn't taken a bite out of them yet! I also found out that if you
get too close to a gopher turtle, they hiss at you.
Have fun, Michele
