AH> I can locate a word in a standard desk dictionary
AH> in eleven seconds... I had one of my students time
AH> me once... and I already knew the publication date
 AH> of this book. :-)

JB> ...But what if you didn't know the spelling?

AH> You got the first four letters right! As I used to tell my
AH> students, that's enough to locate a word in the dictionary.
AH> When one of them said it took too long I lent him my watch
AH> & asked him to choose a word at random. Afterwards I
AH> smiled sweetly & reminded him I'd been practising longer
 AH> than he had.... :-))

How quickly they forget, the first time spelling schizophrenic, or
Czechoslovakia, or psychology, or asphault, or... (Yes, I'll be leaning
*heavily* on the spell checker.)

Something I was wondering the other day, is why is every "q"
followed by a "u"? If it always is, why bother? ...To just 'up'
the letter count?

JB> a sneeze that plucked the sciatic, and my eyes are watering.

AH> While sitting on (essentially) a small stool you had a
AH> sneeze?? Yes, I reckon that could be problematic. It's a reflex
AH> over which you have little or no control... the whole body
AH> tenses up... and you have to maintain your balance! Nora
AH> has had a few bumps & bruises to her left arm as a result
 AH> of sneezing. :-(

Almost right. When my endorphins wane, I sneeze like I am withdrawaling.
It's kinda encouraged, but it can be funny to position myself, for it *not*
to ring the nerve again.

JB> I'll try not to be disjointed.

AH> (Pun alert!) No problem... if you were, I
AH> didn't notice. Dallas & I have other modem buddies who
 AH> write in a stream-of-consciousness fashion.... :-)

I've spent too much time studying woodwork, and I had my
"jointer" on the brain.

 JB> "Onward and awkward!" P-|

 AH> Uh-huh. That's my motto... [grin].

 I learn from the best!

JB> Dad was a rabblerouser, and two of his best buddies
JB> followed him into this endeavour, and my "Uncle" did
JB> so *exactly* two weeks short of dad's 'anniversary'.

AH> Often people who are close seem to die within a
AH> short time. A friend of ours died about two years ago...
AH> then both of his parents died just recently.

Dad expressed how a mom, died of a broken heart soon after her daughter
passed. There were other medical explanations, while clinically correct,
they might have missed that issue.

JB> two were trying to practice their "black" humour.

AH> I hear you. I've made comments like "You know
AH> your kid is really off treatment when you forget to take
AH> the fever thermometer on a camping trip & find you don't
AH> need it." That actually happened to us. Other oncology
AH> parents think such wisecracks are hilarious, probably
AH> because they've had similar experiences. The majority of
AH> folks give me strange looks & imagine I'm off my rocker....
 AH> :-)

I guess like George and I calling ourselves "cripples", those
that aint in it, can't appreciate the chuckle we get from shocking the
"average" citizen.

JB> My "Uncle" worked for the mortuary, sold memorial stones,
JB> and was trained in butchery and taxidermy. That shut the
JB> topic up in a hurry.

AH> So he lived in a small town? They *are* related
 AH> occupations.... ;-)

"Yatzee!" I'm not sure how much embalming, if any was provided,
but he was quite a character. He had his own granite stone on display under
the memorials sign. Talk about, "Hanging out your shingle."

JB> At the end of the eulogy, what can we do but laugh at
JB> the good, and cry for the bad.

 AH> Yup.... :-)

It's when you cry for laughing so hard, that you're onto somethin'.
