Absolutely right August. http://www.vcdhelp.com/ is a web address that
should be in everyone's book. Before buying a DVD player you should
check there, before buying a program to create VCD's you should check
there. iff you can't understand anything about VCD creation or how to
find the mostly free tools needed check there, or how to use the tools
once you find them, check there. From that you see it's not a light
 reading browse quick site.

There is a big fight going on right now similar in ways to the Beta VS
VHS battles of long ago. Microsoft, of course, has decided to back a
different form of DVD creation from the one initially established. Now
do you buy a drive to burn DVD-R -RW or DVD+R +RW and what about
DVD-ROM, and what player will play what format? At least all the
players will play the DVD format used in commercial movie distributions
which is not used in home DVD burners. Sony just released a unit that
would burn both types. The DVD disk themselves have formatting
information burnt into them that determines what sort of burner must
be used with that disk. It's a big confusion and why I'm still waiting
 to buy a DVD burner.

And now JVC has thrown a new ball out on the consumers playing court.
They just recently released a consumer level HDTV camcorder doing the
 following resolutions.

 720p - 1280x720 pixels progressive
 1080i - 1920x1080 pixels interlaced
 1080p - 1920x1080 pixels progressive

Which will most likely mean everything we are buying today will be the
4 tracks of tomorrow. Anyone remember 4 track?

... Just remember...if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.
