I never give Mickey Mouse platys to children, they die too easy.  As do most
of the artificially bred species.  I was amazed at how many people bought
"dalmation fish" after the movie came out, and almost all had to return at
least once, before they got one that survived.  Many just gave up and 
witched
to a different fish.  Personally, I recommend Black Skirt Tetras for
beginners.  Those things will live through armageddon.  Not bad for a $1.29!

 Then theres the zebra danios. I pay a whole .49 for these guys. Great
hearty fish that are really active in any tank.
