Probably most students, on most campuses (campi?) drink too much.
But I'll bet any random sampling of people in the same age group
would show roughly the same behavior characteristics, whether they
be college students, army recruits, the unemployed, name-any-sport
draft picks, or whatever. The key is whenever a group of such
people are concentrated in the same area at the same time, their
behavior will be noticed because a pattern, a uniformity, is easily
detected. And the numbers ensure that any negative effect of such
behavior is proportionately magnified. Conversely, 10 million
65+ year olds consuming a bottle of gin a day, alone in their
apartments, would go relatively unnoticed.
