JOHN PUMMILL was thinking about Help! Ideas Needed. and keyed into
cyberspace:
JP>CS> John, since when is ADD or ADHD a psycologist's perview?
JP>CS> These are physiological problems, not mental illnesses.
JP>CS> I grant that ruling out mental instability is a good idea,
JP>CS> but once that is done, a psychiatrist is completely the
JP>CS> wrong person to go to for this type of treatment.
Carol, a psychologist should be the one who is providing some of the
testing for ADHD to rule out other conditions, a crucial step in the
diagnostic process.
And, since ADHD kids usually have some associated problems, a
psychologist is a good choice to address those problems.
As for going to a psychiatrist, the general rule is that kids see a
pediatric neurologist, and the adults see a psychiatrist. At least here
on Long Island.
The Few. The Proud. The Chosen.
